Erica Terralibera was born in Italy in 1971 and graduated from ISIA (University of Art Design) in Faenza, Italy in 2000 in Industrial Design. In 2007 she received her master’s degree in Graphic Design.
Since 2000 she has been teaching Communication Design in Ialian high schools.
Since 2018 she started working on 3D design, video, videomapping, participating in several festivals dedicated to digital arts and VJ sets in Europe, and several artistic collaborations with musicians, scientists, performers, with her own productions.
She develops a personal poetics based on synesthesia, from which she is «affected», and flower biology, specific to her home area (Lake Garda), using maual drawing (watercolor, colored pencils, ink), which she mixes with the use of softwares and platforms for graphic design, video editing, 3D drawing and animation, generative art and videomapping.
My research combines two things: a strong sense of belonging to what I call «the wild» – «nature» is too vague and general a term-, by which I mean living in the woods, with as few possessions as possible, constantly concerned with leaving as light an «ecological footprint» as possible, with the constant awareness that we pollute by breathing, and an extra sensitivity to these things. This attitude has been with me since childhood.
The second thing is synesthesia, mainly audio/visual, which I have and which has probably also strongly influenced my perception of my surroundings, making me feel either strongly connected or completely lost. Five years ago, my artistic collaboration with a neuroscientist Vanessa Candela allowed me to study it in depth, enabling me to experience how scientific disciplines can sometimes be a source of inspiration in artistic production.
I mix the visual stimuli generated by sounds with performance, sculpture and film language, using interactive and immersive video art as my medium. I consider art not only a means of communicating my ideas, but a resource that everyone should have access to, as art can soften the harshness of life, imparting the poetry that should distinguish us as human beings and not monsters. True beauty lies in nature, and my mission in this world is to uncover its unknown stories and share them with people through my vision.
